Zamfara State Governor, Bello Mohammed on Sunday  handed over four hundred and sixty (460) houses to the state’s chapter of the Nigeria Labor Congress NLC, for distribution to Junior workers in the State.

Speaking at a brief ceremony to hand over the housing units located along Gidan Dawa Daza bye pass Road in Gusau, the State Capital, Governor Bello Matawalle explained that this was part of his administration’s efforts to provide permanent accomodation for civil servants in the state, on owner occupier basis.

He said in addition to the provision of the completed Four hundred and sixty houses for junior civil servants, another 1000 housing units will be constructed for senior civil servants across the state, pointing out that this week, he would perform the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of the one thousand houses in Gusau, with the sole aim of addressing accommodation challenges of all categories of workers in the state.

The Shettiman Sokoto expressed his deep concern on how civil servants were retiring after thirty-five years of active service without owning a house, this he said will be solved by his administration through the construction of befitting accomodation for them through owner occupier basis and other support to the workers for them to have a sense of belonging.

According to the Governor, the first and second batches of the houses numbering four hundred and sixty would be distributed to workers on the owner-occupier basis with forty percent reduction of the total sum and expected to be upset in ten years.

Governor Bello Matawalle called on the leadership of the Nigeria labour Congress NLC to liaise with the office of the State Head of Service and Directorate of labour matters to ensure justice and fairness in the allocation of the houses to benefitting civil servants.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress Comrade Sani Halliru Magajin Rafin Kurya expressed appreciation to the Governor for his initiative to provide enabling housing accommodation to workers in active service and their future retirement.

Comrade Sani Halliru thanked the Governor for saving thousands of workers and their families from being displaced and homeless especially after their retirement and assured Governor Matawalle of workers’ continuous support and cooperation for his administration to succeed in all ramifications.

The NLC Chairman informed the Governor that all arrangements are in top gear to publically declare the position of the organised labour in the state in respect of good governance administered by Governor Bello Matawalle led administration, especially the favourable policies that directly affect the workers in the state.
