An Egyptian Columnist, Ayman Adly says consistent monitoring of social media sites is panacea to ending activities of terrorists in the African Continent.
Adly stated this in a presentation at the ongoing 58th training session for Young African Journalists, holding in Cairo Egypt.
According to him, the Social Media despite its advantages of ensuring social interaction is being used to promote terrorism in the Continent, hence the need for it to be regulated to protect national security.
He noted that Artificial Intelligence, Terrorism and Cyber Security are threats to the development of Africa if urgent steps are not taken.
The Columnist stated that using Social Media for promoting hate speech, establishment of Terrorist Organisations, fanning of insecurity and instability as well as Political crisis are enimical to the peace and development of Africa.
He emphasized the need for African Leaders to address unemployment and poverty as they are being used as weapons of recruiting young people for extremism.
Adly charged African Journalists to rise up to the challenge of checking fake news and misinformation, stressing the need for Africa leaders to think together and find lasting solution to challenges facing the Continent.
Journalists from Congo Brazzaville, Tanzania, Ghana, Kenya, Chad, Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt are attending the session.
