Stakeholders Task Parents on Investment in Children’s Academic Pursuit As SOWMA Holds Maiden Career Day

Stakeholders in the Education sector have called on parents to invest in the academic pursuit of their children as that is the best legacy in life.

 

This was the submission of various speakers at the maiden Career Day of Seat of Wisdom Model Academy Efakpa-Imane in Olamaboro Local Government Area.

 

The Guest Speaker, whom is the Proprietress of Glory Land Polytechnic Ankpa, Chief Vivian Idama in a paper presentation titled “The Role of Parents in the Career Choice of Their Children,” advised Parents to encourage their children to pursue Career opportunities and skill acquisition as a substitution to seeking white collar jobs.

According to her, the role of parents in career choice cannot be underestimated, stressing the need for them to provide proper guidance in the process of choosing the careers of their children.

 

“Parents can play a crucial role in the Career guidance process for their children by providing support, guidance and resources to help them make informed decisions about their future careers.

 

She charged parents to listen actively to their wards, encourage exploration of different careers, provide emotional support and facilitate networking for the children in the task of choosing a profession.

 

“By taking an active role in the education and career guidance process, parents can help their children to make informed decisions about their future and pursue fulfilling careers that align with their strengths interests and values in the same bread parents need to take a back seat and be led by their children’s interests and talents.

 

Chief Idama however applauded the management and Staff of the School for upholding academic standards, urging them to sustain the excellent job.

 

On his part, the Diocesan Director of Social Communications of the Catholic Diocese of Idah, Very Rev. Father Anthony Okoliko emphasized the need for parents to avoid forcing children to do the courses that they are not interested in studying.

 

According to the Clergy, the era in which people believe that all first borns must toll the line of the careers of their fathers is over.

 

While commending the Proprietor of the School, other management staff and teachers for doing a good job, Rev. Father Okoliko announced the adoption of a child for scholarship.

 

In his remarks, the member representing Ankpa 1 Constituency, Hon. Akus Lawal, who was represented at the Day by Alhaji Roy Idris Akus, a former secretary to Ankpa Local Government, expressed satisfaction with the performance of the pupils and teachers.

 

He also expressed his readiness to include the Seat of Wisdom Academy in his education intervention programme as his own contributions to quality education.

 

Earlier the Proprietor of the Citadel of learning, Mr. Jeremiah Ocheme stated that apart from providing quality education, the school is committed to providing necessary support and mentorship for the pupils to be responsible and responsive in the near future.

 

“As the Proprietor of Seat Of Wisdom Model Academy, I am deeply committed to providing our students with not only a quality education but also the necessary support, resources, and mentorship to help them navigate the complex world of career choices. Today’s event serves as a platform for our students to explore, dream, and envision the possibilities that lie ahead in their professional journeys.

 

He further states that “Career decisions are pivotal moments in a person’s life, shaping their future aspirations, goals, and contributions to society. It is imperative that our students understand the importance of choosing a career path that resonates with their interests, values, and aspirations. By fostering a culture of exploration, self-discovery, and ambition, we empower our students to embark on a journey of personal and professional growth.”

 

Mr. Ocheme explained that the Career Day was set aside as a catalyst for inspiration, guidance, and empowerment, describing it as an opportunity for students to engage with professionals from various fields, explore diverse career options, and envision the possibilities that await them in the world of work.

 

“To our parents, teachers, and mentors, I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your unwavering support, dedication, and commitment to nurturing the potential of our students. Your guidance, encouragement, and mentorship play a crucial role in shaping the career paths and ambitions of our young minds, and for that, we are truly grateful.

 

Mr. Ocheme, a veteran Journalist said the School was not established for profit making but to raise global leaders, adding that the School currently needed another bus to complete the existing one that has already been over stretched.

 

The pupils who dressed in various career uniforms and customs made presentations on why they are choosing the professions displayed on the day as some professionals were on ground to offer career guidance to them.
