The Executive Chairman of Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board (KGSSEB), Dr. Habiba Suleiman says she is on a mission to sanitize senior secondary education in the State.

Dr. Habiba stated this during a meeting with Principals and Zonal Directors from Kogi East held at Anyigba, Dekina Local Government Area.

According to her, the meeting was to exchange ideas on better ways of moving senior secondary schools forward and deal with the rots in the subsector.

“We took an oath to give the best to our children, these children are our future leaders. When a mother gives birth to a child, no one knows what the child will become. Among these children we have Governors, Presidents, tomorrow Ministers. If we don’t impact such attitudes we want them to display, can they be good leaders?”

She expressed concern over what she called laxity and indiscipline in Secondary Schools among the students, teachers and Principal.

The Executive Chairman said payment of bribe to get transfers or promotion as Principal will no longer be tolerated as effort is being made to sanitize the head office of the Board.

She directed Principals to henceforth ignore transfers without appointment letters from the Board, saying a lot of changes will be introduced to improve teaching and learning in the State.

The KGSSEB Executive Chairman solicited the support of relevant stakeholders in righting the wrongs in Secondary Education to restore the lost glory of the subsector.

The Permanent member 2 of KGSSEB, Hon. Hussaini Ada Alhassan cautioned Senior Secondary School Principals as well as teachers against examination misconduct which according to him is a criminal offence that will not be tolerated.

He said to enhance quality education in secondary schools, all hands must be on deck to ensure education is moved to enviable heights.

On his part, permanent member 1 of the Board, Hon. Paul P. Jibrin, explained that the meeting was also to reawaken their spirits and brainstorm on how to move Senior Secondary Education forward.

Earlier, the Zonal Director, Dekina, Mrs. Mary Momoh expressed profound appreciation to the KGSSEB Executive Chairman for hitting the ground running, assuring her of total support towards achieving the Board’s vision.
