The Kogi State Senior Secondary Education Board (KGSSEB) has solicited the collaboration of Proprietors of Secondary Schools to improve academic standards.
Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. Habiba Suleiman made the appeal during a Strategic Engagement meeting with Proprietors of Private Secondary Schools held in Lokoja.
KGSSEB Engages Stakeholders to Restructure Secondary Education in Kogi
According to Dr. Habiba, the world is changing and Kogi State cannot be left behind, hence the engagement to carry them along in the education policies of the State Government.
“The education landscape is changing rapidly, both globally and nationally Here in Kogi State, we cannot afford to lag behind Senior secondary education is a pivotal stage in a child’s academic journey-preparing them for higher education, entrepreneurship, and the workplace. This means that the quality of teaching and learning at this level can make or mar the growth and development of our society.
She noted that change is constant in every society and as nation builders, we should be amenable to change.
On this premise, she added that Computer Based Test Examination will soon commence for the conduct of WAEC and NECO as announced by the Federal Government, urging the Proprietors to prepare for the task ahead and also to prioritize the welfare of their Teachers.
While stressing the need for the provision of a conducive atmosphere for teaching and learning, Dr. Habiba informed that the Board will be prioritizing co-curricular/extra-curricular activities.
She expressed displeasure with the level of moral decadence in schools, urging managements of the schools to uphold discipline as it is important to a vices free society.
The Executive Chairman charged them to see the teaching profession beyond business but focus on adding value to the education sector.
“As proprietors of private schools, you are more than just business owners, you are nation-builders, shaping the minds, character, and future of our children. Your role in providing quality, innovative, and accessible education is indispensable, and we deeply appreciate your sacrifices and contributions.”
She added “Let me assure you that our goal is not to regulate you out of creativity, but to create an enabling environment where private schools can thrive while maintaining standards that guarantee excellence for our learners.”
She disclosed that very soon, the Quality Assurance unit of the Board will be visiting Schools to ascertain if they meet up with the minimum standard.
Responding, the Chairman of National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Mr. Reuben Jimoh expressed satisfaction with the meeting, describing it as an indication that the Board meant well for Secondary Education in the State.
Mr. Jimoh, who stated that the meeting was an eye opener, promised that the Association will cooperate with the Board to achieve set goals.
