The Provost of the College of Education, Ankpa, Dr. Fashagba Paul Femi, has extended warm felicitations to women across Kogi State and Nigeria on the occasion of International Women’s Day (IWD) 2026, with the theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls.”
In a statement released today, Dr. Fashagba praised the remarkable contributions of women to national development and reaffirmed the College’s commitment to providing an enabling academic environment that prioritizes the advancement of female students and staff.
He noted that the theme serves as a powerful reminder of the need to translate legal protections into tangible realities for every woman and girl.
Dr. Fashagba used the occasion to specifically commend the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his visionary and inclusive style of governance, which has significantly impacted women’s participation in politics and leadership across the state.
“His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to inclusive governance.
His administration has deliberately ensured that women are not just spectators but active participants in the political and developmental processes of Kogi State,” Dr. Fashagba stated.
The Provost highlighted the Governor’s pledge to sustain a formidable percentage of women representation in his administration, describing it as a deliberate policy to empower women and strengthen governance at all levels.
Dr. Fashagba further commended the Governor for running an administration where women play key roles in policy formulation and execution, fostering a rancour-free political climate through respect for diversity and inclusion.
“This humane approach to governance has indeed brought governance closer to the people and has set a new standard for political inclusion in our nation,” he added .
Aligning the College’s vision with the State and Federal government’s “Renewed Hope Agenda,” Dr. Fashagba outlined ongoing efforts to remodel the College of Education, Ankpa, into a centre of excellence.
He noted that with the steadfast support of Governor Ododo, the institution has recorded significant milestones.
The Provost also acknowledged the efforts of the Kogi State Government in considering the harmonization of colleges of education to pave the way for degree programmes, a move that will significantly expand access to higher education for female students in the region.
Dr. Fashagba concluded by calling on all stakeholders to accelerate progress towards gender equity, urging women to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Ododo administration.
He prayed for the continued wisdom and strength of the Governor as he leads Kogi State towards greater inclusivity and development.
