KOSU Greenhouse Project Yields First Harvest, Sends 60kg Bell Pepper to Market

Kogi State University, Kabba (KOSU), has recorded another milestone in its drive towards innovation, resourcefulness, and sustainable development as its agripreneurs successfully made their first harvest from the University’s greenhouse farm on Friday shipping same to the market.

 

Conducting the first harvest, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Kehinde Imisi Temitope Eniola fNSM, FRA, represented by Professor Sesan Falaiye of the physics department, noted that the successful harvest underscored KOSU’s commitment to practical learning, agricultural innovation, and community-oriented solutions

. According to him, the development further demonstrated the University’s resolve to contribute meaningfully to food production and food security through modern agricultural practices.

 

The first harvest, which yielded approximately 60 kilograms of Bell Pepper (Capsicum annuum), marks the first major output from the greenhouse farming initiative established under the Kogi AcreSal Programme.

The project which is being coordinated within the campus by the duo of Engr. Agunsoye John and Mr. Saliu Oludare, represented the first harvest barely three months after planting.

 

One of the coordinators, Mr. Saliu noted that the university under the leadership of Professor K.I.T. Eniola, fNSM, FRA, remained committed to its vision of becoming a solution provider to societal challenges while pursuing its aspiration to beat the best and be the best.

 

According to him, the Vice-Chancellor has set the climate that will continue to support initiatives that promote innovation, research, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

The greenhouse harvest represents a significant step in the University’s agricultural development agenda and highlights the immense potential of controlled-environment farming in enhancing productivity, promoting agripreneurship, and supporting sustainable food systems.
