The decision by the Ododo’s led administration to temporarily close schools in Kogi State may not be convenient, but in moments like this, prevention is far better than regret.
It is better to take proactive measures than to wake up to unfortunate stories that could have been avoided.
Kogi occupies a unique and highly strategic position in Nigeria.
As a state that borders about nine others, including the Federal Capital Territory, it serves as a major transit corridor and travel hub.
This geographical reality places a significant security responsibility on the state.
The recent movement of heavy military equipment and the visible deployment of security assets across the state clearly demonstrate that the government is not treating the situation lightly.
From reliable indications, security agencies in the state are carrying out extensive intelligence driven operations, serious underground works are going on with yielding results, mind you not every detail can or should be made public.
Effective security management often requires discretion, strategy, and coordinated underground efforts.
AAs citizens, our role is to support these efforts through vigilance, cooperation, and prayers.
The temporary closure of schools, alongside certain markets, motor parks, and recreational spots, was a difficult but necessary decision under the circumstances.
When confronting enemies who do not wear uniforms, who have no clear identity, and who blend seamlessly into society, caution becomes essential.
These individuals may appear ordinary begging for food or moving unnoticed within our communities, while secretly observing and studying their environment.
The painful reality is that such elements may have integrated into everyday spaces motor parks, busy junctions, relaxation centers, and other public area, some persons seated at Nataco, GT plaza, Wada Park, Kabba junction, Ganaja junction and Ganaja village, are informants, most of those beer parlors, motels etc are not left out.
Identifying and neutralizing such threats is not a simple task, it requires expertise, intelligence gathering, and strategic operations.
It is a complex battle, and it cannot be won through assumptions or public speculation.
For this reason, commendation is due to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his security team for their proactive posture. Given Kogi’s strategic location, one can only imagine the potential consequences if leadership were complacent.
The previous administration took the fight to criminal elements in their hideouts, and the current government has continued with that firm stance, refusing to wait for threats to escalate before acting.
At this critical time, every citizen must remain alert, If you see something, say something, Security is not the responsibility of government alone, it is a collective duty.
Vigilance, cooperation with security agencies, and community awareness will go a long way in keeping Kogi safe.
Together, we must choose caution over carelessness and unity over panic.
With all the efforts of the Kogi State government, the victory is here.
