The member representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Salman Idris, has expressed deep sympathy with the people of Egbeda Egga community in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State following a devastating rainstorm that destroyed more than 200 houses.
In a statement personally signed by the lawmaker, he described the incident as unfortunate and painful, noting that many families have been left homeless and exposed to hardship after the storm wreaked havoc across the community.
Hon. Idris said he shares in the pains of the affected residents and assured them that steps are already being taken to provide immediate relief and support for victims.
He therefore called on the National Emergency Management Agency and the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency to urgently mobilize officials to the community to carry out a comprehensive needs assessment.
The lawmaker also urged the emergency agencies to provide immediate palliatives and humanitarian assistance to the victims to help cushion the effects of the disaster.
Hon. Idris further assured the community that efforts are ongoing with relevant authorities and stakeholders to find lasting solutions and support the rebuilding of homes affected by the destructive rainstorm.
