Flood: Kogi Environment Commissioner Attends COP27 in Egypt, Seeks Support of International Community

Kogi State Government has appealed to global community to come to its aid over the annual flood that ravage about 10 Local Governments.

The Commissioner of Environment, Hon. Victor Adewale Omofaiye made the appeal at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference tagged COP27 holding in Egypt.

According to Hon. Omofaiye, the destruction of property and farmlands submergedby water is devastating and beyond what the State can handle.a

He solicited for a permanent solution to the annual disaster, which he noted has rendered many homeless.

In the same vein, Kogi State Government is to partner with Oando Clean Energy towards ensuring improved waste management.

The Commissioner, who expressed delight over the development, noted that the move is a welcome development aimed at ensuring effective waste management and job creation.

Hon. Omofaiye also made a presentation on Build Back Better: Mitigation and Adaptation for Climate Resilience and Economic Transformation in Kogi State where he highlighted the effort of the State Government in erosion control and maintaining a clean environment.

This is aimed at reducing erosion and land degradation, adaptation mechanisms on flood management, reduction in carbon emission, afforestation and to kick-start global partnership on waste management.

According to him, the Nigerian Team to the Conference was led by the Minister of Environment, His Excellency Mohammed H. Abdullahi.

Also at the partnership meeting are; the Executive Director Oando Plc and President/CEO Oando Clean Energy Limited, Mr. Alex Ainojie Irune, Executive Vice President Oando Clean Energy Limited, Mr. Ademola Ogunbanjo and Prince Xavier Eyamba MD/CEO Stratus Consult Limited, the Kogi State Ministry of Environment Consultant,who facilitated the meeting.

The Representative of Oando Clean Energy are to visit the State soon in continuation of discussion and signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
