The Chairman of Governing Council, Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Zubair Abdallah has inaugurated Prof. Gbenga Ibileye as the 4th Vice Chancellor of the University.
At a the colourful Inauguration ceremony in Lokoja on Monday, the Governing Council Chairman charged the new Vice Chancellor to carry out his assignment with transparency, accountability and team work.
He urged him to build on the legacies of his predecessor, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi by building on his legacies, and congratulated him on his well deserved appointment and wished him peace and progress.
Prof. Abdallah paid glowing tributes to the immediate Past Vice Chancellor, describing him as the father of modern FUL, who led with respect, wisdom and boldness.
According to him, Prof. Akinwumi left a legacy that restored hope and renewed confidence of Staff and Students and applauded him for serving the University and the nation with honour.
Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Mrs. Folashade Ayoade has assured of the support of the State Government to the new Vice Chancellor.
Mrs. Ayoade noted that in view of the commitment of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to Education, the Government will extend support to the new Vice Chancellor for the benefit of the people of the State.
She noted that the All Progressives Congress led government in the State since twenty sixteen has established two universities that are currently meeting the education need of the people.
The SGS assured that the current administration will continue to invest in the education sector to provide a good atmosphere for teaching and learning.
Mrs. Ayoade congratulated the Vice Chancellor on his appointment, urging him to build on the outstanding legacies of the Immediate Past Vice Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi.
Earlier, the outgone Vice Chancellor, Prof. Akinwumi stated that through purposeful leadership, his administration has strengthened academic excellence and laid a good foundation with increments of facilities from three to seventeen.
Represented by Prof. S.D Musa Tasked him to consolidate on the Achievements by building a great institution that will serve Humanity and advanced national development

In his inaugural address, Professor Gbenga Ibileye promised to build the Institution into a world class institution that will be reckoned with academic excellence, research, innovation and societal impact.
Professor Ibileye, who solicited for the support of all and sundry, called for collaboration with the State Government in the Area of human capital development, Innovation and regional transformation.
He vowed that under his administration, 50% of the students of the University will be provided with hostel accommodation , assuring that he will not disappoint the trust reposed in him.
