Gov. Bello Inspects NEWMAP Projects in Kogi Central, Charges Benefitting Communities to Guard Projects

Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello deferred the Eid el Kabir celebration to inspect erosion control projects executed by his administration through the instrumentality of the Kogi State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) at the Central Senatorial District.

NEWMAP is a world Bank Project aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of soil and land degradation in targeted watershed for environmental sustainability in the country.

The Governor while speaking during the inspection of the erosion control projects in Agassa and Ozuri expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done, describing the job as part of the legacy projects of his administration.

A companied by the Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye, as well as the Project Coordinator, Kogi NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto  and other top Government Officials, Gov. Bello charged members of the Communities (AGASSA and OZURI) to jealously guard the Legacy Projects.

According to him, his Administration has through the instrumentality of Kogi NEWMAP, invested heavily in the Gully Reclamation Projects in the Communities, which is expected to last for decades.

The Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye said with the erosion control projects, problems such as lost of lives and property associated with erosion will become a thing of the past.

Chief Omofaiye commended the State Governor for investing in ending environmental degradation which he noted is a step in the right direction.

On her part, the Kogi State NEWMAP Project Coordinator, Barr. Ladi Jatto noted that the fulfilment of the State role through approval of counterpart fund by the Governor ensured access to money for the execution of the gully erosion projects.

According to Barr. Jatto, the Projects were executed in accordance with international standard.
