Kogi State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Wemi Jones has solicited more support of public spirited individuals towards restoring the lost glory of education in the State.
Hon. Jones also said the sector and it’s challenges are too big for Government alone to handle as developing Education is a collective responsibility.
This is just as the Commissioner applauded the NGO for demonstrating interest in the development of education, saying it is in line with the Schools adoption and mentorship programme of the Ministry of Education.
Hon. Jones was speaking as a Special Guest of Honour at the 3rd Edition of Scholarship and Educational Assistance Programme (SEAP)” the programme is under the Non Governmental Organization known as Global Health and Indigent Care Foundation Inc. (GHICF).
Hon. Jones applauded the Foundation and Organizers for promoting academic excellence, noting that education is primary in the agenda of the present administration, hence the 30% budgetary allocation to the sector which he noted necessitated to the free education at Primary and Secondary school levels as well as free External Examination.
According to him, after making remarkable progress in tertiary education subsector with the full accreditation of courses in all State owned Higher Institutions and establishment of Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara as well as Kogi State University Kabba, Government is now focusing on addressing the infrastructural decay at Primary and Secondary Schools.
He stated that in demonstration of its commitment to Education, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo recently released over N600m for the payment of the next WASSCE with more than 18,000 public secondary school students set to benefit.
While urging the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture with hard work and dedication to their studies, the Commissioner commended the Foundation for caring for the academic needs of the less privileged in the society.
On the request for the rehabilitation of Government Secondary School Aiyetoro Gbede, Hon. Jones says plans are on to fix it in no distant time.
