The Joint Revenue Board (JRB), which is the apex body for revenue administration in Nigeria, has sought partnership with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to enforce the ban on roadblocks mounted for the collection of taxes.

The Board urged the Nigeria Police Force to set up a national taskforce to demolish all roadblocks for purposes of revenue collection and enforce the ban on such activities across the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Olusegun Adesokan, made the call during a courtesy visit to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, by the Board on Tuesday 31st March 2026, at the Force headquarters, Abuja.

Mr. Adesokan recalled that the Board at its 158th meeting held in December 2025 abolished the mounting of roadblocks for the collection of any form of revenue by revenue authorities, associations, groups or individuals.

He said the decision, which was inline with the current tax reforms, is aimed at eradicating the menace of roadblocks and the incidental increase in the cost of goods due to multiple levies collected at different roadblocks on inter-state and inter-state roads.

According to Adesokan, “the Board has banned State and non-state actors from mounting roadblocks for the collection of any form of revenue. The activities of these persons have caused an increase in the cost of goods in the market.”

“The current tax reforms are intended to tackle fundamental issues within our tax system and makes living easier for Nigerians. It was for this reason that the Board banned the mounting of roadblocks for the purpose of revenue collection.”

“So, we are here to seek partnership with the Nigeria Police Force to enforce the ban on roadblocks mounted for the collection of revenue. We want the Police to set up a national taskforce to dismantle these roadblocks, arrest and prosecute those behind these activities”, he added.

In his response, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, represented by DIG Ishaka Mohammed, acknowledged that multiple roadblocks mounted for the collection of revenue have been a concern and challenge to the nation’s economy.

IGP Disu lauded the Board for abolishing the practice, saying the Police will unify its existing operations to enforce the ban.

Hear him, “roadblocks have been a major challenge to our economy. At different times, we have received complaints by road transporters on the activities of these people, and our men have been working to address those complaints.”

“I am happy that this practice has been abolished and criminalised. With this complaint from the Board, we will unify our operations to ensure that the ban is enforced uniformly across the country”, the IGP stated.

Some members of the Board on the delegation during the courtesy visit were the Executive Chairman, Enugu State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Emmanuel Nnamani, and the Acting Executive Chairman, FCT Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Michael Ango.
