In a bid to boost Agriculture in Kogi State, another set of over 110 youths have arrived at Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital for a three month training on Soilless Farming, a method of growing plants without soil, using nutrient-rich solutions or other inert media.
Addressing the Youths in Lokoja before their departure on Sunday, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Timothy Ojoma said so far, more than three hundred youths have completed a rigorous training program at the Soilless Farm Lab in Abeokuta.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary in charge of the Ministry, Alhaji Abdulsalam Sagir, the Commissioner explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from the three senatorial districts of the state in a bid to equip them with innovative agro-business skills and modern farming techniques.
Hon. Ojoma described the Soilless Farming Training as the best way of equipping the young generation with practical knowledge in technologies controlled farming systems and Greenhouse management.
He stated that the greenhouse farming is better than the traditional methods as it promotes efficiency and sustainability in Agriculture.
According to the Commissioner , the key feature of the programme is the Smartcard Partnership, which is aims at empowering the trainees to become successful entrepreneurship.
He maintained that the participants will receive essential tools, mentorship, and resources to support their agricultural ventures and contribute to the growth of the Agriculture sector in Kogi State.
Hon. Ojoma emphasized Governor Usman Ododo’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for farmers in the state to reduce hunger.
He added that the initiative is a strategic move towards establishing Kogi State as a center of agricultural excellence and enhancing food security, and generating sustainable job opportunities for the youth.
The Commissioner advised contingents to be good ambassador of the state re-assured the returnees of the government’s unwavering support, promising continued collaboration to ensure their newly acquired skills are effectively utilized for the progress of the state.
In his remarks, member of the State House of Assembly representing-Ajaokuta constituency Jibrin Abu commended the State government for given younger generations an opportunity to be trained on Soilless Lab agriculture farming to boost maximum production.
On behalf of the participants, Joseph Michael, from the West, Suleiman Hussena and Adija Ibrahim expressed delight for the opportunity given to them by the State Government, assuring that they will be good Ambassadors of the state.
