The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu has officially presented the New Register of Voters to the 18 political parties in Nigeria for 2023 general election as required by the 2022 Electoral Act.
The INEC Chairman who presented the new voter Register at the meeting of the political party leaders on Wednesday in Abuja, maintained the commission stance on not contemplating any adjustment to the election timetable or the postponement of the General Election.
Professor Yakubu reassured that, the 2023 general election will hold as scheduled, adding that any report to the contrary is fake, and not the official position of the Commission.
The commission presented a register containing 93,469,008 voters for the 2023 general elections
The INEC chairman said with the presentation of voter register, the commission has successfully implemented 11 out of the 14 activities scheduled for the 2023 general elections.
The voter distribution also reveals that 44,414,846 registered voters are females, and 49,054,162 are males
The number of young people between the ages of 18 and 34 of the total registered voters stood at 37,060,399, representing 39.65%, while the elderly between the ages of 50 and 69 stood at 17,700,270, representing 18.94% of total registered voters.
