In a bid to bolster the safety of students, staff, and infrastructure, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba, the Provost, Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, has pledged to make security a top priority on campus.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Dr. Fashagba has introduced a series of strategic measures aimed at strengthening campus surveillance and emergency response.

As part of this initiative, the Provost officially handed over several motorcycles to the college’s security unit during a brief ceremony held on campus.

The motorcycles are intended to facilitate rapid response to incidents, increase surveillance coverage, and deter potential security threats across the college premises.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Fashagba emphasized the importance of a safe and secure learning environment.

“Education cannot thrive in an atmosphere of fear or insecurity. It is our duty to ensure that every student, member of staff, and visitor feels safe within this academic community,” he said.

The deployment of these motorcycles is a step towards a more responsive and mobile security force capable of addressing issues as they arise.

The new motorcycles are equipped for all-weather use and will allow security personnel to patrol hard-to-reach areas of the campus, especially during late hours.

Dr. Fashagba also hinted at additional security upgrades, including enhanced lighting around critical zones, installation of surveillance cameras, and the implementation of a digital reporting system for security incidents.

College security personnel welcomed the development, describing it as a long-awaited intervention that would significantly improve their efficiency.

“This support from the Provost is timely and highly commendable,” said the Chief Security Officer.

With these motorcycles, our response time will be faster, and our visibility across campus will increase.

The College Bursar, Alh. Lawal Lamidi Itopa and the chairmen committee of Deans and Directors Dr. David Okpanachi and Dr. Ali Maj in their separate remarks commended the provost for this remarkable/proactive step which they all agreed was in tune with the popular security parlance of “SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING”.

Other Staffers and Students also expressed their appreciation for the initiative. “It’s reassuring to see the leadership taking our safety seriously,” remarked Mr. John Onuche a final-year student. “It gives us confidence to focus on our studies.”

This initiative marks yet another milestone in Dr. Fashagba’s tenure as Provost, as he continues to implement reforms aimed at academic excellence and institutional stability. With security now a key focus, the college community looks forward to a safer, more secure environment conducive to learning and personal development.
