The Bunu Development Association (BDA) has urged Kogi State Government to address what it called “gross infrastructure deficit” across Bunu land.
The call is contained in a Communiqué issued at the end of the National Congress of the Association held over the weekend at Iluke-Bunu.

The Communiqué which was signed by the BDA National President, Pastor Johnson Folorunsho Kolawoe and Secretary, Chief Durowaiye Ayo noted that roads in Bunu Land are currently in dilapidated condition with epileptic power supply.
“Roads are largely dilapidated, electricity is either absent or epileptic, and the general state of public amenities lags far behind that of other districts.
The Association urged the government to adopt a more inclusive development strategy that reflects equity and fairness for Bunu land, commending Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, for providing critical security infrastructure including Hilux operational vehicles, motorcycles, and other logistics in the area.
“These resources have greatly boosted the morale and effectiveness of security operatives in tackling the menace of insecurity.
It appealed to the State Government to intensify rescue operations and ensure the safe return of the four kidnapped victims from Aiyetoro-Kiri and others, whose plight remains a source of collective pain.
The Communiqué acknowledged the relentless and courageous efforts of security agencies and local vigilante groups across Bunu land, noting that their efforts sacrifices have been pivotal in safeguarding the lives and property.
While condemning illegal allocation of lands to strangers, the Association emphasized the urgent need for all Bunu communities to establish and strengthen local vigilante outfits to complement existing security structures.
“The BDA strongly condemned the illegal allocation or sales of community lands to herders. The Congress resolved that any such act will be firmly resisted and duly reported to government authorities to protect the ancestral lands of Bunu people.
“The Association called on the Kogi State Government to expedite the establishment of a forward operating base at Iluke-Bunu, particularly for the Ilah–Iluke–Kiri axis. Such proactive architecture will serve as a deterrent to banditry and a response hub for emergencies.
The BDA urged Bunu youths to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and vigilant in the face of growing security threats, calling for prompt reports of any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
The Body called for maximum cooperation of all Bunu sons, daughters and well wishers towards the Centenary anniversary for His Royal majesty, the Olubunu of Bunu land coming up July 20th, 2025.
Meanwhile, the National Executive of BDA has been re-elected for another for another four years in recognition of their outstanding leadership, integrity, and service delivery.
The reelected officials are; Pastor Johnson Folorunsho Kolawole, National President, Hon. James Olorunnipa – Vice President I, Hon. Johnson Jimoh – Vice President II and Chief. Durowaiye Ayo – National Secretary.
Others are; Dr. Joseph Enimola – Treasurer, Hon. Olusegun John Oniwaye – Financial Secretary, Mr. Felix Obajulu – Assistant Secretary, Pastor Samuel Olubato – Organising Secretary and Mr. Sunday Yakubu as Public Relations Officer.
