Otunba Olayinka Braimoh, the Governorship Candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in the last Kogi State election, has advocated for the development of a legal framework that would enable Nigerians to defend themselves against the rising wave of insecurity in the country.
Speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the 100th birthday and 64th anniversary celebration of Oba Joseph Ikusemoro, the Olubunu of Bunu land, Braimoh emphasized the need for a legal framework that would empower communities to defend themselves against criminals.
According to him, while bandits and other criminals use sophisticated weapons to perpetrate their nefarious activities, ordinary citizens lack the means to defend themselves.
“If a legal framework is developed to enable communities to defend themselves within the law, I believe many good people will be able to support their communities in ensuring their safety,” he said.
Braimoh noted that he had stopped commenting on insecurity issues in Bunu land after drawing the attention of the federal and state governments to the problem. However, he stressed the need for the people of Bunu to do more to ensure the safety of lives and property.
On the state of the Olle-Oke-Offin Road, Braimoh described the situation as “primitive,” calling on the relevant authorities to give the road the attention it deserves.
He also clarified that he has not resigned from the Action Alliance and has not joined any coalition.
In congratulating the Olubunu on his milestone birthday and anniversary, Braimoh attributed the monarch’s longevity to resilience.
