The Sanity Multi-Efforts Forum (SMEF), under the leadership of Prince Dan Olaitan Dada, President, has expressed deep concern over the security challenges affecting Oro Ago Kingdom and its environs, while commending the resilience and commitment of students, educators, community leaders, and government actors responding to the crisis.

In a statement issued on Thursday, SMEF said it was “with a heavy heart” that the Forum acknowledged the disruption to normal life and learning in the kingdom. The Forum noted that such disruption is particularly unfortunate for a community renowned for its resilience, culture, and dedication to education.

Despite the challenges, SMEF said it was heartened by the response of stakeholders who have ensured that over 100 students from all secondary schools in Oro Ago District were able to present themselves for the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WAEC) in Omu Aran.

The Forum saluted the courage and determination of the students, stating that their resolve “embodies the true spirit of Oro Ago.” SMEF also commended the four Principals, eight teachers, and four support staff who, it said, “have gone beyond duty to organize emergency teaching sessions within every available window,” ensuring that the students’ academic progress was not derailed.

SMEF further acknowledged the role of the ODU National Executive Council, whose recent visit to the students provided encouragement and boosted morale at a critical time. The Forum also appreciated the Kwara State Government for providing two meals daily, fair hostel accommodation, and for arranging standby military security cover, describing these measures as essential for allowing the students to write their examinations with dignity and safety.

“This situation reinforces why SMEF exists: to advocate for order, legality, citizen protection, and accountability in public spaces,” the statement read. “No child should have to leave their hometown to write a national examination due to insecurity.”

The Forum called on all levels of government, security agencies, and community stakeholders to sustain and strengthen current protective measures, and to work urgently toward restoring lasting peace in Oro Ago Kingdom so that learning and normal life can return to the community.

SMEF reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Oro Ago District and pledged to continue documenting issues, sensitizing the public, and collaborating with relevant authorities to ensure that the rights and safety of citizens, especially children, are protected.
