Over 70 Pregnant Women in Kabba-Bunu and its environs have benefited from a two-day free Medical treatment organised by a leading Health Facility, Southward Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Edumo.
The expecting mothers were also sensitised on nutrition in pregnancy and benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, personal and environmental hygiene, danger signs in pregnancy, immunization in pregnancy and after birth among others.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital, Mrs. Bosede Omodara said the Medical treatment which also featured free laboratory tests, physical examination, distribution of Mosquito nets, drugs and scanning, was aimed at educating the pregnant women on what they need to know for safe delivery.
“You know there is a place of information and there’s a place of education, and that is very key and important. If people do not hear, how will they take action?
“Mrs. Omodara, who reaffirmed the commitment of the Health Facility to providing quality and affordable healthcare to the people, said the hospital was established among others to reduce maternal mortality.
She stressed the need for mothers to embrace exclusive breastfeeding for the wellbeing of the child.
“Babies that are exclusively breastfeed are not usually sick. The anti bodies that is passed unto them from the mother gives them immunity and that is what makes them not to be sick. So, when you breastfeed a child, the child has so much to gain from the mother unlike children that are feed with food.
“The hygiene of preparing food such as baby formula can lead to diarrhoea. But when a baby is breastfeed exclusively, no sickness and the baby will grow healthy, she added.
The Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Owoniyi described the medical programme which focused on Pregnant Women as historic and first of its kind within Kabba-Bunu and its environs.
“We are witnessing history in the sense that nothing like this has having this environment. So we thank the Proprietor and his wife for making this possible. Am no aware of any hospital that is so kind, so generous to have done what they are doing. So we have to pray for them so that next year, they will do better.
He described the sensitisation aspect of the medical programme as mind blowing and revealing, urging the people to take advantage of the facility for their health care.
In her presentation, a Medical Expert, Dr. Orji Onyinyechi said nutrition and routine drugs in pregnancy are necessary for their wellbeing and for the development of the baby to avoid post natal complications.
Dr. Onyinyechi stressed the need to avoid mosquito bites that could lead to malaria, the the disease is dangerous for pregnant women.
On her part, a Resource Person, Mrs. Christiana Ayere appealed to the expectant mothers to adhere strictly to personal hygiene and live in clean environments.
The highpoint of the Medical outreach is the safe delivery of one of the Pregnant Women.
