The Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim, says the council will adopt Adire shirts for its campaigns in the 2027 general and governorship elections.
He also pledged support for the Ijumu Adire project, which is championed by the Ijumu Women’s Association.
Alhaji Ibrahim made the announcement at the graduation of over 50 women trained by the association in Adire (tie and dye) production. The ceremony was held at the palace of the Olujumu of Ijumu in Iyara.
He said his aim is to make the local government the economic hub of Okun land through support for, and investment in, small-scale businesses.
“I know the importance of small scale businesses like this. They are the drivers of every economy and they are important to every society and without them, there’s no economy that can grow.
“If you go to China, they started small like this and today there’s no family in China that does not go into production of something. What you are doing is good and that is where we should invest the bulk of our money into because it will bring out more for the economy.”
The chairman added that Nigeria does not need a subsidy on petroleum, but a subsidy on production, especially on the cost of equipment.
He congratulated the beneficiaries of the training and urged them to take the skill seriously.
“You’re the driver of Ijumu economy today, whatever we are going to use for campaign shirt is going to be Adire. Please while you are doing this and making savings, invest in more in that business.”
Alhaji Ibrahim also said no local government in Kogi State is as secure as Ijumu, and thanked the traditional council for its support.
