The Ijumu Women’s Association has announced plans to train and empower 50 women in Adire making as part of a programme aimed at promoting skills acquisition and enterprise among women in Ijumu.
The programme is themed “Empowering Ijumu Women through Skill and Enterprise.”
According to a statement by the association, beneficiaries will receive hands-on training, mentorship and starter packs to help them begin their own businesses.
The training will hold on October 28 and 29, 2026, and will be followed by a grand finale on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 11am at the Olujumu’s Palace, Iyara.
Adire is a traditional indigo-dyed fabric popular across Yoruba communities, produced through tie-and-dye and resist techniques. It is a skill that can be turned into a source of livelihood.

By pairing the training with mentorship and starter packs, the association is seeking to ensure that participants not only learn the craft but are also supported to start earning from it.
The association, which was founded in 2022 and operates under the motto “Empowered Women, Stronger Ijumu,” used the programme to push its message that skilled women make for stronger communities. Its slogans for the event include “Together We Learn, We Create, We Thrive” and “Skilled Women, Brighter Ijumu.”
