Open Defecation: Filling Stations without Toilets to be Sealed in Kogi

In a bid to reduce the habit of open defecation, Kogi State Government is to seal filling stations without toilet.

To this end, the State House of Assembly has signed a bill to enact Kogi State Environmental Health into law.

Under the new law if assented to by Governor Yahaya Bello, any filling station without toilet will be sealed with a fined of N100,000.

Also, Petrol Stations with poorly managed toilets will be fined N50, 000, while public organizations and private buildings without toilet risk N50, 000 and N20, 000 fines respectively.

Similarly, anyone defecating in public will be fined N5000 or risk two months in prison.

The House while urging the Ministry of Environment to carryout a Public enlightenment on the law, encouraged the State government to build public toilets across the State.
