In a bold step toward producing employers of labour, the Provost of Kogi State College of Education (KSCOE), Ankpa, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagha, has established the Governor Usman Ododo Skill Acquisition Centre within the college premises.

The centre, which was officially unveiled this week, is designed to equip students and members of the surrounding community with hands-on training in various trades. The basic skills to be taught include fashion and design, shoe making, soap production, cake baking, and other vocational crafts.

Speaking during the launch, Dr. Fashagha emphasized that the initiative aligns with Governor Usman Ododo’s vision of youth empowerment and self-reliance across the state. He noted that the centre will not only complement academic learning but also provide alternative career paths and economic opportunities for graduates of the college.

“This project is about preparing our students for life beyond the classroom,” the provost explained. “By acquiring practical skills, they will be able to create jobs for themselves and others, reducing unemployment and poverty in our communities.”

Staff and students of the institution commended the provost’s foresight, describing the centre as a life-changing initiative. Many expressed optimism that the skills acquired would contribute significantly to personal growth and the overall development of the society.

The Governor Usman Ododo Skill Acquisition Centre is expected to commence training activities in the coming weeks, with enrollment open to both students and interested residents of Ankpa and neighboring towns.
