Kogi State Security Trust Fund has presented ten refurbished vehicles to the Nigerian Army, Police and Civil Defence.
Performing the ceremony at the State Secretariat in Lokoja on Thursday, the Chairman of the Fund, Hon. Abdulraheem Ozovehe Ohiare said the measure was to ensure a crime free Kogi State.
Hon. Abdulraheem said the vision of the Governor is to see that the people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.
He explained that he has the mandate of the State Governor to ensure that all vehicles of Army should be refurbished in line within the shortest period of time, stressing that the Governor has given approval for the purchase and release of motorcycles to the Army as well.
“Let me also inform you that His Excellency has given a matching order that we purchase motorcycles for the Army without delay, and this is to combat crimes in our dear state” he stated.
The Chairman said it was the responsibility of the trust fund to contribute meaningfully to the reduction of crime across the length and breath of the state.
He Urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the vehicles in order to serve the purpose intended, adding that a monitoring team has since been out in place to check abuses of whatever form.
In his speech, the Chairman, House of Assembly committee on security, Major Enefola described the Chairman of the security Trust Fund as an honest man who is adding value to the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
He commended his leadership for promoting the image of the organization and the state, saying the development in the security architecture was commendable.
In his remarks, Kogi State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Alhaji Ademu Seidu noted that just last month, the Agency refurbished vehicles and presented same to security agencies with the NUJ benefitting.
Alhaji Ademu Seidu praised the Governor for appointing credible people into positions of responsibility, noting that the chairman has so far delivered in line with the mandate given him.
The NUJ Chairman appealed to the government to improve the funding for the state security trust fund to enable it do more.
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, Head of operations, Nigerian Army, twelve Brigade, Lokoja, Major Garba Muhammed noted that the chairman has demonstrated capacity in leadership.
He expressed gratitude to the Agency and the Government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for being a dependable ally, stressing that with the good will of the organization, there will be reduction in crime rate.
