Detention of Ayomide: Ijumu LG Chairman Clears Air

The attention of the Office of the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, has been drawn to several social media discussions and allegations linking the Chairman to the detention of one Ayomide by law enforcement authorities. In view of the numerous misconceptions and misinformation circulating in the public space, it has become necessary to clarify the situation for the general public.

To set the record straight, on 16th January this year, the Office of the Executive Chairman was alerted to a social media publication alleging that the Chairman and the Ijumu Local Government administration were involved in the mismanagement of funds, unlawful withholding of the salaries of appointees and local government staff, and acts aimed at forcing a one-party political system in the area.

The said document, which was circulated on the Okun Voice Group, was purportedly issued on the letterhead of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) National Secretariat, dated 12th January, with the address listed as Plot 2652, No. 20 Yedseram Street, Abuja A6, Maitama.

The document was allegedly signed by the Acting Director-General, Barr. (Mrs.) Evan Enekwe, Esq., and copied to the Presidency, the EFCC, the Kogi State Accountant-General, and the Treasurer of Ijumu Local Government.

Following the discovery of the document, the Ijumu Local Government management promptly reached out to the ALGON National Secretariat through its Chief of Staff. However the Secretariat categorically stated that the document was falsified and did not emanate from ALGON.

In further clarification, ALGON issued an official disclaimer on the same day, clearly dissociating the association from the document and stating that it had not authorized anyone, including the Acting Director-General, to issue such communication regarding the Chairman or the administration of Ijumu Local Government.

The disclaimer further emphasized that the allegations contained in the document do not represent the position or views of ALGON concerning the Executive Chairman or his office. *It also expressed the association’s readiness to ensure that those responsible for the falsification are brought to justice.*

Consequently, an official report was made to the relevant law enforcement authorities, and an investigation commenced.

This led to the aprehension of the said Ayomide, who reportedly confessed to publishing the document. During interrogation, Ayomide stated that he obtained the document from certain individuals through Olusegun Mobayode Felix, whose Facebook name is Lod Mobayode Felix, and that he was contacted to facilitate its publication.

The law enforcement agency has since transferred the case to the appropriate investigative unit, where further inquiries are ongoing to identify and apprehend the originators and accomplices involved in the falsification and circulation of the document.

We wish to state categorically and unequivocally that the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government or the Local Government Administration does not have the authority to detain or release any individual under investigation by law enforcement agencies. Such decisions lie strictly within the jurisdiction of the relevant security agencies in line with established legal procedures.

We therefore urge members of the public to desist from unnecessary name-calling, misinformation, and unfounded allegations, particularly on social media, suggesting that the Executive Chairman is responsible for the continued detention of Ayomide.

For individuals or groups genuinely interested in assisting the said Ayomide, we advise that they approach the appropriate law enforcement authorities handling the case to explore lawful and appropriate avenues, rather than spreading misinformation in the public domain.

The administration of Ijumu Local Government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of the integrity of the Office of the Executive Chairman. Any act or publication intended to deliberately malign or demean the office and the administration will not be condoned.

  • Disclaimer – We Won’t Recognise Elections Conducted By Ampitan

Disclaimer – We Won’t Recognise Elections Conducted By Ampitan

Disclaimer – We Won’t Recognise Elections Conducted By Ampitan

Our attention has been drawn to an indicting, miscontrued,

malicious and befuddled statement credited to Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) of a call to remove the INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan and that Muslims will not recognise any election conducted by him.

The statements is not only inflammatory but inciting and divisive rhetoric which is synonymous to treason and such offence is punishable under (1999) Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as (amended).

Therefore , to us, such statements is capable of undermining national unity and confidence in the 2027 general elections and heighten political and religious tensions across the country, such assertion by (SCSN) is diametrically opposed or antipodal and individuals orchestrating such moves have flagrantly ignored the facts that Nigeria is neither an Islamic country nor is Nigeria christianity country. Infact, Nigeria is a secular country as the Constitution clearly said in Section 10 that the Government of a State or the Federal Government shall not officially adopt, endorse, or promote any religion as the state religion. This provision reinforces the secular nature of the Nigerian state and ensures neutrality in religious affairs.

As we all know, the law used in governing our nation is the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria(as amended ) as written in Section 1 Subsection 1-3 of the Constitution (as amended).

Section 1, Subsection 1 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) establishes the supremacy of the constitution, asserting that its provisions are binding on all authorities and persons. It forbids governance outside its provisions and voids any law inconsistent with it.

Section 1, Subsection 2 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) prohibits illegal takeovers of government, establishing that the country can only be governed in accordance with the constitution.

Section 1, Subsection 3 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) establishes the supremacy of the Constitution, stating that if any other law is inconsistent with its provisions, the Constitution shall prevail, and the other law shall, to the extent of the inconsistency, be void.

Therefore, no existing Muslim or Christian party in Nigeria where both Muslims and Christians dominated according to their respective faiths, as such their postulation is null and void.

While we acknowledge and respect all religion practiced in Nigeria, we want to state unequivocally clear that the demand for the INEC Chairman resignation or dismissal by the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) is spurious and uncalled for and which should be discarded by all well meaning Nigerian’s. The matter above has nothing to do with elections or any of electoral activities for which he is appointed, he should therefore not be punished for taking a position as a true Nigerian. The position of INEC Chairman is based on merit and Professor Joash Ampitan deserves it and since his assumption of office he has been discharging his responsibilities with utmost sense of responsibility, unalloyed sincerity, sheer passion and commitment.

Competence, patriotism, intellectual acumen, performance, integrity, ethical values, excellence and other relevant qualifications should be a criteria and basis for assessing public office holders and not religious affiliations.

Nigeria democracy is hinged on constitutional processes, the supremacy of law and respect for independent institutions.

No one should hide under the guise of political and sectarian interests and sentiments. We make bold to say the act is a reflection of those hidden under religion to discriminate against Christians, targeted at those in appointments to sensitive national offices.

It is in the public knowledge that several individuals have served in sensitive government positions despite controversial religious antecedents without facing similar scrutiny.

The two immediate past INEC Chairmen were Muslims and during these periods Christians never raised an eyebrow.

We want to applaud His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR for appointing a Christian as INEC Chairman, without mincing words, our dear President is not a religious jingoist rather he is an embodiment of inclusivity and religious sensitivity.

We urge the Independent National Electoral Commission under the jurisdiction of Professor Joash Ampitan to remain focused on it’s constitutional responsibilities and not be distracted by issues unrelated to electoral activities.

Therefore, we pass a vote of confidence on Professor Joash Ampitan and urge Nigerians to continue to have trust in the era of the INEC Chairman.

In the same vein, we urge the socio-religious groups, political actors and other stakeholders not to fall for the bait of those who have sworn to plunge our country into a state of comatose due to their coordinated political agenda ahead of the 2027 elections and framing politics along religious beliefs with the sole aim of deepening divisions, inflame religious tensions and threaten national cohesion and unity.

Nigeria belongs to all of us irrespective of our tribes or religion.

Let those using draconian ploy and antics to subvert democratic principles and constitutes a threat to democratic integrity, ideals and ethical values have a rethink.

This is a defining moment, and history will remember those who stood for justice and fairness.

Thus, in the spirit of national development and institutional clarity, this rejoinder should be read as both respectful correction and a call for adherence to the clear provisions of the law.

It could be recall that Professor Joash Ampitan was appointed INEC chairman in October 2025 after his nomination by President Bola Tinubu was approved by the National Council of State and confirmed by the Senate.

Professor Joash Ampitan is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos and a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, he previously served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the university and has held several academic and administrative positions with outstanding and notable records of service, imprints and achievements.

Group Gives Ex Speaker Kolawole 48hrs Ultimatum to Release Arrested APC Youth

The Concerned Kabba-Bunu All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths is aware that Matthew Kolawole, former Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly 48hrs Ultimatum used a Court warrant to arrest a youth and active member of our Great Party, Hon. Seun Jaja today 6th January 2026.

The allegations levelled against the easy going Youth, borders on unsubstantiated Criminal Defamation and for any right thinking person, the allegation is baseless and hurriedly cooked up.

As a Body, we see this as a witch-hunt of the innocent young man, who does not believe in his House of Representatives ambition that is already dead on arrival.

Kolawole Still Suffering from 2023 Election Pain, Salman Media Team Respond to Ex Kogi Assembly Speaker

How can a man who wants to represent his people at the highly exalted Green Chamber of the National Assembly arrest the same people simply? Is it because Hon. Seun Jaja refused to supported his ambition that has already hit the rock?

We know Kolawole to be a man that his desperate for power and can do anything to achieve his aim but he is ignorant that only God Almighty gives power to whoever he pleases.

As a Youth Group that is committed to the growth of our Great party, we hereby give the elsewhile, Ex Speaker, to release Hon. Seun Jaja in the next 48hrs or face the consequences of his actions.

For records purpose, if our silent Achiever, dogged and pragmatic Lawmaker representing Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Hon. Salman Idris is to follow the same route of arresting Political enemies, all Kolawole Supporters would have been behind the bars.

This is because at several foras and Social Media Platforms, they have called Hon. Salman Idris unprintable names including Kolawole himself.

Nobody has monopoly of stupidity and we demand the unconditional release of Hon. Jaja.

We call on the Leadership of our Great Party under our State Supreme Leader, Alh. Yahaya Bello and His Excellency, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo, the Chief Servant of Kogi State to call Kolawole to order as he is currently dividing the Party with his selfish ambition.

This is coming at a time that our Party is about to commence electronic registration for members and new entrants. We as law abiding citizen of our party are committed to the growth of APC, hence the need to call him to order.

This is because his actions could cause disaffection in the Party across the Federal Constituency.

Re: The Cabals are After Our Lands and Natural Resources: Mopa, Be Vigilant

Re: The Cabals are After Our Lands and Natural Resources: Mopa, Be Vigilant

Our attention has again been drawn to a publication by a drowning Faceless group known as Concerned Mopa Senior Citizens titled “The Cabals are After Our Lands and Natural Resources: Mopa, Be Vigilant.” The author to us is faceless as no name signed the statement. This group is not registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and for us, they are mischief makers, who are only out to cause disaffection and turn the law-abiding people of Mopamuro Local Government Area against our goal getting and result orienting Kabiyesi, His Royal Majesty, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun, the Elulu of Mopa, Kogi State Nigeria.

Due to the focus of His Majesty and his Council on providing people orientated leadership for people of Mopa Kingdom, we would have ignored their ranting and fallacy but because the innocent Public and people that hold the stool of Elulu of Mopa in high regard, we will like to set the record straight.

The claims by the Pseudo Group are untrue, baseless and handiwork of mischief makers, who are bereaved of ideas and knowledge of the laudable and remarkable jobs of his Royal Majesty.

    1. That Elulu of Mopa, Oba Muyiwa Ibeun without missing words remains a blessing to Mopamuro Local Government as his ascension has no doubt given us more relevance among Communities in the Okun land and indeed the entire Kogi State.

    2. The so-called Pseudo Group does not exist as most of the people that formed it in the beginning have seen the light (Outstanding leadership quality provided by Kabiyesi) and are now on the side of the truth. This is an affirmation that the promise of Kabiyesi to lead his people with equity, fairness and justice is already yielding positive results as he is well respected both within and outside the State.

    3. The claim of Cabals going after Lands and Natural Resources in Mopa is not true and should be disregarded by the public. What we now have in Mopa Traditional Council is a crop of people with proven integrity including former acting Governor of Kogi State, Chief Clarence Olafemi, who are only interested and committed to the peace, progress and development of Mopa Kingdom.

    4. That Oba Muyiwa Ibeun until he took the responsibility of becoming the Elulu of Mopa was a successful business man in Nigeria and anyone that decides to serve his people in that capacity should be commended and as well appreciated. His decision to serve Mopa and Mopamuro people was not based on the salary but out of passion to use the instrumentality of the stool to render selfless service to his subjects.

    5. There is no doubt in the fact that Mopa is blessed with limestone and other natural resources in large quantities which necessitated the citing of a Gigantic Cement Factory in the Community. The Mopamuro Paramount Ruler is an enlightened and exposed Nigerian, who has travelled to many countries of the world with understanding of what is good for the people if the natural resources are harnessed. In fact, Oba Ibeun should be applauded by any right thinking person on the registration of Mopa Mining Company Limited as only a Visionary Leader will take such a brave and calculative step. Do they prefer outsiders to come to Mopa to mine our resources? Their position on this laudable move shows that they do not have the interest of the people of Mopa at heart and only out to cause confusion.

    6. On the alleged forceful takeover of land belonging to people for construction of the Elulu Central Palace, this allegations are not true as the said land belongs to the Palace in the first place. Oba Ibeun is a kind-hearted Monarch and cannot take any step that will inconvenience or cause hardship for his subjects.

    7. The achievements of our highly revered Royal Majesty have been cheering and heartwarming to many but we just wonder why this Baseless Group are not comfortable with it. Instead of hiding under a Pseudo Group to spread lies and unfounded rumours, this energy should be geared towards supporting the lofty programmes that Kabiyesi has for the people of Mopa.

After one year on the throne of his ancestors, Oba Ibeun has no doubt performed creditably well as remarked by His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ayodele Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife during his address at the first Anniversary.

The process that produced him as the Elulu of Mopa was credible, transparent and fair. Anyone who is challenging it should go to the Court and vint their grievances as any effort to cause trouble or instigate the people of Mopa against their King will be resisted with every instrumentality of the Law.

We call on Security Agents to be on the lookout for this faceless Group, who are interested in disturbing the already existing peace of the Area.

Their actions if allowed could jeopardize the effort put in place by Security personnel and Government. This we will not allow.

We call on the good people of Mopa to disregard the Pseudo Group and join hands with Kabiyesi in moving the Community to enviable heights.

COMMUNIQUE OF THE MID-YEAR CONFERENCE OF IJUMU DEVELOPMENT UNION (IDU) HELD ON 30TH AUGUST, 2025 AT EGBEDA EGGA, IJUMU LGA

At the end of its mid-year conference held on the 30th of August, 2025, at Egbeda Egga, the Ijumu Development Union (IDU) reached the following resolutions:

    1. The Union passionately appeals to the government to urgently rehabilitate the Kabba–Omuo Ekiti road and improve electricity supply across Ijumu communities.

    2. The Union calls on all individuals and community development associations to show greater commitment towards the progress of Ijumu land, noting that the responsibility of development must not be left to the executives alone.

    3. The Union urges all Ijumu communities to support the Ijumu Local Government, under the leadership of Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna (DSTV), in its efforts to combat criminality and insecurity.

    4. The National Executive of IDU is mandated to officially write to the management of Manga Cement requesting an audience and to present a working document that will address the development concerns of Ijumu communities. And a committee shall be constituted comprising political leaders, traditional rulers, and other dignitaries with adequate knowledge of the company’s operations to further engage with the cement company.

    5. Similarly, the Union rejects the claim that the Ijumu Unity Hall in Iyara has been completed and commissioned, and demands that such misinformation be discontinued.

    6. The Union resolved that a new officer, preferably a legal practitioner from Ijumu-Oke, be appointed to replace Ven. Olorundare, who has now been appointed as an Ex-Officio of the Union. His tenure and office remain valid only under the current administration.

    7. The Union affirmed that the epoch-making Ijumu Day celebration will be held on the 7th and 8th of November, 2025. The two-day event will feature a symposium on 7th November, followed by the grand celebration on 8th November. Various committees and sub-committees have been set up, and appointment letters have been issued to the respective chairmen and secretaries.

    8. The Union announced the renaming of Zango Market as Iyara Cattle Market, and the market has been partially opened for operation after agreement reached. All uncertified land acquisitions will be revoked by the government. A military base will be established at the market to enhance security. Furthermore, the Ijumu Security Trust Fund, chaired by Hon. Funsho Olumoko, has been created. Security is a collective responsibility, and households are reminded that the ₦500 security levy per household, earlier signed into law, remains mandatory. The establishment of a mobile court within Ijumu Council was proposed to enforce compliance, a position endorsed by the Royal Fathers of Ijumu and applauded by the house.

    9. The financial categorization of Ijumu communities has been updated, with three groups: A, B, and C. Egbeda-Egga has been promoted to Group A. Beginning in 2026, annual levies will be: ₦100,000 for Group A communities, ₦80,000 for Group B, and ₦60,000 for Group C. This proposal was unanimously adopted by the house.

    10. The Union advised all Ijumu communities to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
