The Obajana Traditional Council in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State has rejected the purported appointment of Ademu Egbunu as the Onu Igala of Obajana, describing the development as illegitimate and the handiwork of mischief-makers.
In a statement signed by High Chief Berida Ibitomola, Secretary of the Obajana Community, on behalf of the Obajana Traditional Council of Chiefs, the Council urged the public to disregard the alleged appointment.
The Council said those behind the development were only interested in creating tension and sowing discord between the Igala and Obajana communities.
According to the Council, the Bajana of Obajana, HRH Engr. Oba (Dr.) Idowu Isenibi, JP, duly appointed Chief Daikwo Gideon as the Onu Igala Obajana on June 30, 2024, and he remains the recognised occupant of the position.
«“As far as the Traditional Council is concerned, Chief Daikwo Gideon remains the only recognised Onu Igala Obajana. Anyone laying claim to a backdoor appointment is merely chasing shadows,” the Council stated.»
The traditional council further warned that it would not tolerate any attempt by what it described as unscrupulous elements to disrupt the existing peace and harmony in the community.
It also called on security agencies to urgently investigate the alleged appointment and take appropriate measures to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order.
The Council urged residents and members of the public to remain calm and disregard what it described as attempts to create confusion over the traditional leadership of the Igala community in Obajana.
