Nigeria’s women U-20 team, the Falconets, will face former champions, Germany, Venezuela and South Korea in Group D at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia from August 31 to August to 22.

The draw ceremony took place in Bogota, Colombia on Wednesday with 24 teams set to participate in the competition for the first time.

The Nigerians beat South Korea 1-0 in the group stage of the 2022 edition in Costa Rica courtesy of forward Esther Onyenezide’s late strike.

The Falconets have been runners-up twice in the competition (2010 and 2014) – agonisingly losing both to the Germans.

Their World Cup journey begins with a clash against the Korean Republic. They will then face Germany and Venezuela to complete their group-stage matches.

Group A has hosts Colombia, Australia, Mexico and Cameroon. France, Canada, Brazil and Fiji are in Group B. In Group C, there are Spain, USA, Paraguay and Morocco with Japan, New Zealand, Ghana and Austria in Group E while the Democratic Republic of Korea, Argentina, Costa Rica and The Netherlands make up Group F.

Matches will take place in four venues in three different cities (Bogotá, Medellín and Cali).

The top two teams in each group will qualify for the round of 16, alongside the best four third-placed teams.
