The Ijumu Consultative Forum has applauded the member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke for building a State-of-the-art Palace for Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom.
This was part of the deliberations at the annual General meeting of the Forum held at the Olujumu’s Palace.
The Olujumu of Ijumu, Oba Dr. Williams Olusegun Ayeni in his remarks commended the speed at which the project is being executed.
According to him, “Let me start by reporting that the state of the art edifice standing beside us, wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts of our illustrious son who in his magnanimity put this project in this year’s 2024 budget.”
“He didn’t only stop at getting the project on smoothly. He also ensures that the contractors didn’t stop working since the project began. Recall that we have been battling hard for years to ensure the completion of the one, where we are having a meeting today, that we started some years back.
The meeting bemoaned what it called inadequate employment opportunities for Ijumu citizens in Mangal Cement Iluhagba Gbede despite engagement by traditional council to right the wrong.
“Although the efforts of the council have resulted in a strain in the relationship between Ijumu Traditional Council and Mangal Cement Factory. Nevertheless, the council will continue to bring into the spotlight, a violation observed in the Community Development Agreement signed with the Iluhagba community.
On illegal mining in some communities in the Local Government Area, the meeting said the ban on illegal mining stands.
“Illegal mining in Okoro Gbede, Agirigbon Gbede, Iluhafon Gbede, Ayere, and other places across Ijumu kingdom also received the attention of the council. The council was not against the mining of mineral resource in Ijumu kingdom but it must be done to the benefit of our people. Equally, the Effort of the council has resulted in banning of mining activities by some illegal miners by the Ministry for Mines and Mineral Resources.
