The Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, has directed the immediate imposition of a curfew in Ayetoro Gbede Community following heightened tension.

This followed the unfortunate killing of a truck driver by unknown individuals, which has led to protests and poses a serious threat to lives and property within the community.

The Chairman in a statement confirmed that the ugly incident has also resulted in damage to some properties at the Ayetoro Gbede Police Divisional Headquarters, destruction of trucks and vehicles, blockage of roads, and injuries to several persons.

According to him, Preliminary reports indicate that the perpetrators are suspected Truck Thiefs who reportedly abandoned the truck and fled into the surrounding area after being chased by the Ijumu local hunters.

In the interest of maintaining law and order, and to restore calm and normalcy, the Local Government has directed that all movements are restricted between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. daily until further notice.*

The order is not intended to cause hardship to law-abiding citizens but to safeguard residents and protect properties while security agencies work to stabilize the situation. Strict adherence to this directive is mandatory.

Anyone found violating the curfew order will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Residents are urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to support the peace and unity of Ayetoro Gbede Community.
