In a public disclaimer signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Theophilus Ibimode, IDU disassociated itself from the outcome of the impromptu meeting which had no regard for the decision of Supreme Court on the issue.

IDU said the land dispute between Itegba-Iyamoye and Ekinrin-Adde communities had already decided by the Supreme Court of Nigeria and partially resolved by the former Deputy Governor of Kogi, Chief Yomi Awoniyi.

“Iyamoye Development Union hereby disclaim all the Reports being circulated on Social Media and Media Houses by the Hon. Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area. As the Itegba-Iyamoye Community stands on the settlement carried out by His Excellency former Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Yomi Awoniyi, on 22nd March, 2012 and in 2014 signed by representatives of Itegba-Iyamoye, representatives of Ekinrin-Adde, representative of Kogi State Boundary Committee, representative of Chairman Ijumu Local Government and the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Chief Yomi Awoniyi.

“We hold that the impromptu meeting convened at the instance of Hon. Haruna Ibrahim on 5th April, 2025 was a trap to force and embarrass the Iyamoye Community to cede their land to Ekinrin-Adde under illegal Media Camera against the judgment of the Supreme Court and the settlement reached by parties in 2012 and 2014.

“We also disclaim the interpretation of the judgment given by Hon. Ibrahim Haruna’s organised Lawyer, the person of M. H. Yusuf Esq of Alfauzozu as he has no power to do so,” he said.

While stating that the Itegba-Iyamoye community are not against any development and establishment of a University in Ijumu Local Government Area, Kogi State, IDU insisted that they want effect given to the Judgment of the Courts.

IDU also demanded that the LG Chairman, Hon. Haruna Ibrahim, tender a public apology in 10 dailies circulating in Nigeria.

Reacting, the Local Government Chairman, Alh. Haruna Ibrahim said he acted in good faith to resolve the long standing land dispute between the two communities.

According to him, the last meeting to broker Peace between the Ekinrin Adde and Iyamoye was part of his commitment to peaceful resolution of dispute and to lay the foundation for the proposed Federal University of Entrepreneurship currently before the National Assembly.

Alh. Haruna added that the State Governor, Alh. Ahmed Usman Ododo is aware of the matter and will soon intervene in the matter.
