Update: How One Person Was Killed and 12 injured in Kabba Explosion

The report making the round that there was bomb blast on Wednesday night in Kabba, Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State has been described as untrue and fake News.

According to report, a loud blast sound was heard at a beer parlour near Lifted Pharmacy at Lewu Junction, Kabba.

The sound caused panic as residents ran for safety.

The Chairman of Kabba-Bunu Local Government, Moses Olorunleke confirmed to The Drum Reporters on phone that the explosion was from a domestic gas.

He said security agencies have been mobilized to the scene to restore normalcy and safety of lives and property, adding that investigations have commenced into the matter.

A Resident of Kabba, James Olorunmolu, who posted on his Facebook wall said “Pls kindly disregard any news of any form as it is just a domestic gas explosion which has no serious damages.”

Also, another Facebook user, Prince Peter Femi Owolagba stated that “it was a cylinder explosion. Met us confirm our information before spreading please.”

Kogi State Police Command also confirmed the disaster in a Statement made available to this News Media.

It reads “Kogi State Police Command received report of an explosion at a drinking joint, Labi bear parlour Lewu junction, Kabba suspected to be Gas Explosion.”

Immediately, the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Edward Egbuka deployed teams of personnel from Police Mobile Force, Quick Response Unit as well as conventional Officers to the scene along with the Military personnel to control access and evacuated the victims to Hospital. Normalcy has been restored in the area.

During the process, one Aisha who was injured by the explosion and evacuated to the hospital with others injured, later died. Others receiving treatment.

The Commissioner of Police directed Deputy Commissioner of Police Investigation to commence investigation into the incident along with the personnel of the Explosives Ordinance Department (EOD) to unravel the cause of the explosion.

The Commissioner of Police urged members of the public to go about their lawful business while reiterating the Command’s level of commitment in synergy with other security agencies in ensuring safety of lives and property.
