Kogi State Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Adewale Omofaiye has called for more funding to ensure effective waste management in the State.
Chief Omofaiye made the call at the Budget Defense of the Ministry before the House Committee on Environment at the Speakers Lodge, Lokoja.
The Commissioner said the current staff strength and equipment are not enough to manage waste, hence the need for funds to achieve set goal.
According to him, the only laboratory in the State Environmental Protection Board is obsolete and urgently needs to be replaced for easy test of samples of water among others.
He maintained that the recent flood that ravaged the State as well as other environmental challenges are result of Climate Change.
The Commissioner disclosed that the State would soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding MOU with Oando Clean Energy towards ensuring improved waste management.
Chief Omofaiye explained that the Representatives of Oando Clean Energy are expected to meet with the State Economic Team on the modalities for the agreement.
