Thousands of Houses and Farmlands in Kogi State have been submerged by flood.
Also, thousands of people have been sacked from their homes as a result of the natural disaster.
This is coming few days after operators of Lagdo Dam, in the Republic of Cameroon announced the opening of the dam for the release of excess water.
Speaking to Newsmen shortly after an assessment of the flood in Adankolo, Ganaja, Pata and other affected parts in Lokoja, the Commissioner of Environment, Chief Victor Omofaiye described the disaster as devastating and unfortunate despite the efforts made by government against flooding.
According to him, the State does not have what it takes to address the damages to caused by the diaster, appealing to the Federal Government and International Community to come to the aid of the State.
He noted that as part of measures to control erosion, the State built an embankment at Pata market as well as other erosion control projects through NEWMAP but the damages are beyond the State.
Chief Omofaiye sympathized with victims of the disaster, urging the public to avoid throwing diets on water channels.
The Commissioner, who was accompanied by his Information and Communication counterpart, Kingsley Fanwo, directed those living in flood prone areas to relocate immediately.
On his part, Kingsley Fanwo said a permanent solution must be proffered to reduce the yearly disaster.
He said as a responsive and responsible government, the present administration has invested billions of Naira on erosion control.
The Commissioner added that his ministry will partner with that of Environment to sensitize the people on what to do in the flooding period.
