In a major move to bolster security and regulatory compliance within the hospitality industry, the Management of the Kogi State Hotels and Tourism Board held a high-level strategic meeting today, April 24, 2026, with the Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The meeting, which took place at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja, was aimed at ratifying the modalities for a robust collaboration centered on hotel regulation and the enforcement of civil security standards across all tourism and hospitality facilities in the state.

Speaking during the session, the General Manager of the Kogi State Hotels and Tourism Board, Hon. Prince Philip Orebiyi, emphasized that the current security climate demands immediate and appropriate vigilance. He noted that the safety of guests and the integrity of hospitality businesses are paramount to the state’s economic growth.

”The need for appropriate vigilance is now,” Prince Orebiyi stated. “The establishment of the new State Committee on Tourism creates a perfect opportunity for this collaboration.

Working closely with the NSCDC unit in Kogi will help a great deal in identifying high-risk facilities and ensuring that every hotel operating in our state is a safe haven, not a hideout for criminal elements.”

In his response, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Commandant Aletan Olumide, expressed immense satisfaction with the Board’s proactive approach. He described the partnership as a “timely and joyful development” for the security architecture of the state.

Commandant Aletan explained how pleased he was with the collaboration, stating that the Corps is fully prepared to provide the necessary tactical support to ensure that hospitality facilities in Kogi State operate within the confines of the law.

He noted that the NSCDC’s expertise in monitoring private security and protecting critical assets will be a major asset to the Board’s mission.

The Hotel Vigilance and Compliance Tour
A key resolution from the meeting is the imminent commencement of a state-wide “Hotel Vigilance and Compliance Tour.”

This joint operation will see a task force of Board officials and NSCDC officers visiting facilities across the three senatorial districts to enforce mandatory registration, guest profiling, and the installation of functional CCTV systems.

The General Manager warned that the era of “under-the-radar” operations is over, as the Board and the NSCDC are now fully aligned to shut down non-compliant facilities and prosecute defaulters.

With this ratified collaboration, Kogi State is set to lead the way in hospitality security, ensuring that the “Confluence State” remains a secure and world-class destination for tourists and investors alike.
