Kogi SUBEB Partners with FUL on Manpower Development

Chairman of Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Comrade Suleiman Ndalayi Abdullahi has reiterated his commitment to collaborate with Federal University Lokoja to take education to its greater height in the state.

This assurance was given during a courtesy visit of the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja Professor Olayemi Akinwumi to intimate the Chairman on the recent development in the institution in his office.

The Executive Chairman who was elated on the rate of development in the institution said the introduction of an Institute of Education into the University is a welcomed development as it would afford teachers access to long term vacation training which will in turn improve and enhance their capacity on the teaching profession.

Comrade Suleiman also commended the reintroduction of History in the school curriculum and urged the team to encourage and ensure adequate provision of manpower in this area to handle the subject at the basic level.

Meanwhile Comrade Suleiman expressed appreciation and promised to put all necessary machineries in place to enhance a smooth take off of the programme as soon as possible.

In his earlier remarks, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja who gladly intimated the Executive Chairman that the institution had started admitting Students for Medicine in their newly introduced College of Medical Sciences while that of Nursing and Engineering Courses will soon commence.

The Vice Chancellor however noted the high rate of deterioration in the education system and said it is a syndrome that can only be arrested if teachers capacities at all levels are being improved upon through training and retraining programs.

Prof. Akinwumi said it would be laudable if an Institute of Education is introduced into the University so that teachers can avail themselves the opportunity to acquire more standard additional qualifications to enhance their efficiency in the teaching career.

Also speaking, the Director, Institute of Education Prof. Ezra Shiloba Gbaje said the institute has adequate resourceful manpower to organize Training Workshops and Seminars for teachers to improve their delivery capacities at different
