NAWIS Advocates Equal Treatment for Female Athletes

The Nigerian Women in Sports (NAWIS) has advocated equal treatment for female athletes in the country.

This is contained in a Communique issued at the end of the National Conference held at Ilorin, Kwara State with the theme “Pushing the Boundaries and Inspiring Positive Changes in the Challenges Facing Women in Sports.”

COMMUNIQUE OF THE 11TH NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN WOMEN IN SPORTS(NAWIS) HELD BETWEEN  17th-19th MAY,2022 AT QUEEN ELIZABETH SECONDARY SCHOOL AUDITORIUM, ILORIN, KWARA STATE

After deliberations on the various presentation made on the theme,
PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES AND INSPIRING POSITIVE CHANGES IN THE CHALLENGES FACING WOMEN IN SPORTS’
including the various sub-themes, the following communique were arrived at;

1. NAWIS congratulates Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for hosting the 11th edition of NAWIS conference.

2. The conference advocates for more women participation in Sports with good welfare packages in concordance and harmony with their male counterparts for boosting their morale.

3.The conference commends the women who has excelled in various high performances in Sporting events

4.NAWIS emphasises the issue of mentorship for women in Sports from the grassroots to the international level .

5. NAWIS talks about good balanced diets for athletes before, during and after competiton for optimal growth and development.

6. NAWIS also identifies the weakness of female in Sports such as low morale, psychological defeats, emotional trauma among others.

7.NAWIS also recommends that both athletes and coaches should set achievable goals.

8. NAWIS reccomends that regular conference/seminar and workshops be organized in order to update their knowledge on current issues.

9. NAWIS also discusses extensively on issues of female ethics in relation to appearances, ergonic aids and handling method of training by male coaches( possibly recommended female coaches where available).

10. NAWIS also emphasises equal treatment of female athletes

11. NAWIS discusses  the ambiguity of performance demands, physical and mental health of female athletes, as well as environmental serenity predicting sound knowledge of physical education.

12. It also talked about administrative determinants of organising in female secondary school and perceived gender competency differences in sports administration creativity and effective communication by athletes.

13. NAWIS highlights challenges disseminating boundaries in achieving positive growth in physical education by athletes.

14. It also discussed gender violence in sports and stress coping techniques for Nigeria women in Sports.

15. Finally, it highlights socio-demographic factors as correlates in choice of coaching professions among retired athletes in Nigeria.
