The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is set to establish an Automotive Biofuels Programme for Nigeria and Sugarcane Fuel Ethanol project at Ike-Bunu in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The agreement for the Biofuels refinery to be established in the state is a tripartite investment among the NNPC Limited, CONTEC Global Energy Limited and the Kogi State Government which was signed in twenty seventeen.
Speaking when she led a delegation on a visit to Governor Yahaya Bello at the Government House Lokoja, a General Manager in the NNPC, Dr. Funmilola Ale explained that the team were in the state to brief the Governor on the level of their preparedness for the establishment of the Biofuel Refinery expected to commence soon.
Managing Director, CONTEC Global, Doctor Adedeji Asiru, noted that the sugarcane -ethanol-biofuel project supports green environment and mitigates global warming, commending the State Government for keying into renewable energy.
In his remarks, Governor Yahaya Bello advocated the inclusion of host communities in equity sharing to create a sense of ownership, saying when investors go beyond paying compensation for land to the affected people and get them involved, it will ensure community support in securing the investment.
While expressing delight that the efforts and agreement with the NNPC was yielding positive results, the Governor maintained that his administration has emphasized food security in its drive to consolidate on the gains of democracy.
He stated that one of the objectives of the New Direction Government was job creation and empowerment as well as creating a conducive atmosphere for investment.
Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Planning, Asiwaju Idris Ashiru, said lands have been secured for the project with the owners duly compensated, adding that work is expected to start on the site soon.
