Okun: It is Time to Take Back Our Place – FUL VC

Worried by the low Academic standards in Okun Land, the Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi says the time has come for people of the Area to take their rightful place in Education.

He said the standard of Education which is the biggest industry Okun land has reduced, saying urgent steps must be taken to salvage the situation.

The Vice Chancellor was speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the 55th Iyah Gbede Day held at Iyah Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

According to him, in the past, Okun people have been taking the lead in Tertiary Institutions both within and outside the country, noting that most youths now prefer to engage themselves in Political thuggery and riding of Okada.

He challenged Community Development Associations across Okun land to rise up to this challenge to redeem the lost glory of the Area in enhancing academic standards.

Prof. Akinwumi expressed displeasure with the current state of Insecurity in Okun land, calling for collective and decisive action to nip it in the bud.

He however applauded the rich cultural heritage of Iyah Gbede Community, describing the event as a symbol of unity.
