Retired Army Colonel to be Coronated as Kogi Monarch on Saturday June 11

All is now set for the coronation of HRM. Oba Olusegun Oloruntoba as Olu Gbede of Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State on Saturday, June 11th, 2022.

Kogi State Executive Council had on 18th October, 2021 approved the appointment of Oba Oloruntoba as the Olugbede of Gbede land at the meeting presided over by the Governor Bello himself.

A Statement by Chief Israel Oshafunmi, Chairman Planning Committee explained that the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello is expected at the epoch making ceremony scheduled to hold at Okoro-Gbede ILGEA Primary School field at 10 o’clock in the morning.

Top government functionaries, serving and retired Military officers, the Obaro of Kabba and Chairman Okun Area Traditional Council, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi are expected at the ceremony with the Chairman, Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Taofiq Isa and HRM. Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni, Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom.

All Gbede sons and daughters, lover of the Olu Gbede are enjoined to attend the event unfailingly.

WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT OLU GBEDE

His Majesty, Oba Oloruntoba joined the Nigerian Army as a cadet of the Nigerian Defence Academy in January, 1972 and I had a very successful career in terms of performance and promotions in the army until I was falsely and wrongly accused of plotting a coup to overthrow the government of Gen. Sani Abacha, a coup that never occurred.

Until his appointment, he has been acknowledged as a Community Developer, who is loved by all for his humility, love, accessibility and generosity.

His Military Journey

  1. Oba Oluruntoba, the 9th Olu Gbede of Gbede land is a Retired Combatant Army Officer, who left the Army as a full Colonel.
  2. He is a Member of NDA Regular Combatant Course 11.
  3. An Officer of Nigerian Army Corps or Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
  4. A Chartered Mechanical Engineer who is duly registered by the British Engineering Council, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria and the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
  5. A former Commander, 3rd Armoured Division, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Jos.
  6. Former Directing Staff, Senor Division, Command and Staff College, Jaji.

 

APPOINTMENTS HELD AFTER RETIREMENT

  1. Lecturer 1 / Fellow: Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Ilorin
  2. Lecturer 1, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna.
  3. Chief Consultant to Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria, Kaduna.
  4. Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor on Engineering Standards between 2012-2015.

QUALIFICATIONS

Msc, B.Eng, C.Eng, NDACE, .MBIM, MCOREN, MNSE, psc (+)..

AWARD

Defence Abuja Merit Award in Weapon Production Engineering, 2004 as well as the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria Merit Award for his Contribution to the first ever Local Manufacturing of 60mm Mortar Tube 81mm Mortar Tube and Rocket Propelled Grenade Launcher, RPG 7.
