Kogi State Auditor General for Local Government, Alh. Usman Ododo on Friday commenced distribution of Chemistry and Physics Textbooks under the School Adoption Programme of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
The School Adoption Programme is an innovation by the State Government to encourage those who have the well withal to support the growth of education. towards salvaging the education sector from total collapse.
Kogi State Governor, Alh. Yahaya Bello while flagging off the exercise for Schools in Kogi Central, said the motive of introducing the Programme is already yielding positive result, describing the gesture of Alh. Ododo as huge which cut across the State.
Represented by the Education Commissioner, Hon. Wemi Jones, the Governor noted that there is no going back in his plan to revamp education sector, saying the textbooks are to be given free of charge to science students.
These books are to be given to the students free of charge. No principal is allowed to commercialize the books as well have put machineries in place to check selling of the textbooks which I will not disclose here.
According to him, the Adoption Programme is not for the government but to rescue the education system and secure a bright future for the young generation.
While using the occasion to call on other State Appointees to emulate the Kogi State Local Government Auditor General, the Governor maintained that the gesture will improve the state performance in Science, Technical, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
According to him, massive enforcement of education law will soon commence to check sharp practices especially by owners of Private schools who are operating without licence.
He added that his administration is also making effort to build more Model Schools across the State, saying the recruitment of teachers for secondary schools which has been transparent, will soon be completed.
The Governor reiterated his commitment to making the State the Education hub of North Central with the provision of Education Law, Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara and construction of GYB Model Secondary Schools among others.
In his remarks, the Ohio of Adavi, HRH Alh. Mohammed Bello pointed out that the present administration in the State has Prioritized Education in Kogi State and commended the Auditor General for Local Government for investing in Science education.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Informal and Vocational Education, Nana Hawa-Raji described the donation by Alh. Ododo as an intervention towards promoting the teaching and learning of Physics and Chemistry subjects.
Nana urged individuals and well-to-do people in the society to embrace the School Adoption Programme, adding that the donation is as call to action by other political office holders.
