Okun Development Initiative (ODI) has reacted to a decisive Billboard erected in Lokoja, calling for continuity of Kogi Central in the Lugard House as Governor of the State.

The Group in a statement by its National Coordinator, Hon. Olusuyi Otitoju said it “received with relief the news of the removal of the contemptuous billboard that has elicited negative reactions from lots of people.”

According to the ODI, “the directive of the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pharm. Abdulkareem Mohammed Jamiu Asusku is laudable and should be appreciated by well meaning Kogites because it has doused tension.

“The Chief of Staff’s promise that the government will not tolerate any act or behavior capable of jeopardizing the peace and tranquility of the state is a welcome development.”

The statement further states that “Okun Development Initiative (ODI) is however of the opinion that the perpetrators of the dastard act must be identified, apprehended and punished to serve as deterrent to others with similar negative mindsets.”

“While Okun Development Initiative (ODI) agrees with the Chief of Staff that no one should hide under the cover of any faceless group to heat up the polity, it differs on his stand on rotation and reiterates unequivocally that Kogi State cannot be beyond the era of “turn by turn” as it is the bedrock of equity, justice and fairness as it affects the governorship of the state.”

It added that Governor Yahaya Bello has demonstrated uncommon liberalism in governance and this is reflected in the composition of his cabinet.

Okun Development Initiative insists that for equity, justice and fairness an Okun person should be the next Governor of Kogi State and in the present State Executive Council we have a pool of individuals of Okun Extraction with the requisite ability, capacity, experience and leadership antecedence to pilot the ship of our state to choose from.

The group pointed out that “Any suggestion to the contrary is insulting and condescending.
