The Caretaker Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alh. Haruna Ibrahim was appointed in January 2024 alongside his 20 other counterparts across the Local Councils of the State.

Upon assumption of office, he promised to use his office to provide purposeful leadership for all in the Area with a promise to unite the people of the Area.

In hitting the ground running, he met with heads of security agencies consisting of SSS, Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps as well as Vigilance groups and Local hunters, when he received briefs on security.

He used the opportunity of the meeting to inform the Heads of Security Agencies of his unflinching support to any cause that will promote safety of lives and property of Ijumu people.

He affirmed the commitment of the State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to security and that the government will not negotiate with criminals.

This security meeting alongside with Traditional Rulers in has been sustained and has yielded positive results.

He had at various times vowed to stem out insecurity in the Area, a promise he has fulfilled and is still fulfilling.

Alh. Haruna has led security agencies in the fight against insecurity, a fight that has been taken to the hideouts of the men of the underworld.

One surprising move that surprised Workers of the Local Government was the reconnection of the Council Secretariat to National grid after over 10 years of being in total darkness, hampering working environment of Staff.

Aside this, for the first time after a long time, the administration of Alh. Haruna popularly known as DSTV attracted a World Bank project to the Local Government through Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL).

Following the political will of Governor Ododo in revamping agriculture, the Caretaker Chairman has commenced clearing of 150 hectares of land at each of the Districts of the Local Government namely; Ijumu Oke, Gbede and Ijumu Arin.

This giant and proactive move when completed will make Ijumu the food basket of Kogi State as each hectare will be allocated to each farmer with provision of farm inputs free of charge.

The move no doubt is another footprint of the Haruna led administration in Ijumu and it is timely, coming at a time that prices of food items have skyrocketed.

Apart from the fact that the step advisor med at enhancing food security in the Local Government and the State at large, it is a calculated attempt by the Caretaker Chairman in restoring the lost glory of farming with the display of capacity and political will.

Also, the distribution of palliatives, donated by the State Government across the Wards and polling units in Ijumu has since its commencement witnessed a transparent process that has been appreciated and commended by all.

The welfare of workers have been given priority with increase in the salary of Staff of the Local Government Area.

Watch out for part 2.
