Tinubu Commends Ogwu Onoja SAN Over Investment in Education

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended renowned legal luminary, Chief Ogwu Onoja, SAN, for his massive investment in education, describing it as a strategic contribution to national development and human capital advancement.

The President gave the commendation in Abuja during the groundbreaking ceremony of a 2,000-capacity multipurpose hall and the Faculty of Law of the proposed Fortlugard University, Apo, Abuja.

The ceremony took place at the university’s permanent site in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

President Tinubu was represented at the event by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Rt. Hon. Nephaniah Jisalo, who conveyed the President’s goodwill and support for private-sector driven educational initiatives.

According to the President, Chief Onoja’s investment in education reflects the type of public-private collaboration his administration is eager to encourage, stressing that government alone cannot meet the growing demand for quality tertiary education in the country.

He noted that education remains central to the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration, particularly in building a skilled, ethical, and globally competitive workforce for Nigeria.

The President commended the choice of Abuja as the location for the university, describing the FCT as an emerging city with immense academic, economic, and infrastructural potential.

He said the establishment of Fortlugard University would further strengthen the capital city’s reputation as a centre for learning, research, and professional development, especially in the area of legal education.

The President’s representative also applauded the university’s early engagement with its host community, describing the initiative as a demonstration of responsible and inclusive development.

“I can confirm to you that Chief Ogwu Onoja has already begun impacting the lives of the people through job creation and the provision of social amenities such as access roads and water,” Jisalo said.

He expressed optimism that the project would yield even greater benefits as construction progresses and academic activities commence fully.

Jisalo assured the promoters of Fortlugard University of the Federal Government’s readiness to provide all necessary support to ensure the smooth take-off and sustainability of the institution.

He added that the full operation of the university would significantly contribute to educational access, research output, and socio-economic development in the FCT and beyond.

Earlier, the Special Guest of Honour, Evangelist Sunday Ogwuche of God’s Care Mission, Okpo, described Chief Onoja as a visionary leader whose legacy would endure through investment in education.

He urged the founder to remain steadfast in faith, integrity, and service, noting that institutions built on strong moral and ethical foundations are more likely to stand the test of time.

Evangelist Ogwuche emphasized that Fortlugard University has the potential to produce graduates who will not only excel professionally but also contribute meaningfully to national development.

The groundbreaking ceremony attracted dignitaries from the legal profession, academia, government circles, traditional institutions, and the private sector, highlighting the national importance of the project.

Fortlugard University is expected to commence academic activities in phases, with initial programmes likely to focus on law and allied disciplines, before expanding into other fields in line with regulatory approvals.

When completed, the university is projected to create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs, stimulate local economic activities, and serve as a centre for excellence in teaching, research, and community service within the Federal Capital Territory.
