Unknown gunmen have intercepted an ambulance conveying a corpse to Isuikwuato in Abia State.
The Nation reports that the incident took place at Umunneochi Ihube in Okgiwe along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway on Thursday.
A family source said that the ambulance was coming from Abraka in Delta State when the incident occurred.
According to the family source, armed bandits waylaid the vehicle conveying the corpse and dragged out the occupants, abandoning the coffin in the vehicle on the road.
The source, who said the deceased was his uncle’s wife, said the abductors whisked the victims including the deceased’s daughter, another relation and the driver of the hearse into the bush.
The source who did not disclose his name, said they have informed the police at Isuikwuato for the intervention.
He said that the devastated family has recovered the abandoned corpse and deposited it in a morgue.
“We are in sad moment and these bandits compounded our sorrow. The people bringing my uncle’s wife corpse home were intercepted and whisked away at the notorious Umunneochi Ihube Okigwe axis.
When contacted, the police spokesman in Imo State, CSP Michael Abattam said that the incident did not happen in Imo.
