On Wednesday December 27th, 2023, Kabba the Capital of Kogi West Senatorial District was agog as a prestigious group of like-minded personalities in Okun land known as Legend’s Club of Okunland was unveiled.
The group is made up a conglomeration of eminent sons from the 5 Local Government Areas of Okun land, namely; Kabba-Bunu, Ijumu, Mopa/Amuro, Yagba East and Yagba West, who have succeeded in their chosen careers.
The Legend Club of Okunland is also a highly esteemed social organization established to see to the socio-economic development of their communities and to create a prosperous environment that nurtures the growth and success of individuals and the community as a whole.
Personalities like the member representing Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency, Arc. Salman Idris, traditional rulers among others graced the unveiling ceremony held at the 95 Degrees Event Centre Kabba.
The Chairman of the Occasion, Mr. Korede Adedayo, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of First Trust Mortgage Bank, in his address commended the vision of the Club, which he described as first of its kind and a step in the right direction.
Represented by Oba Victor Timidada, the Emla of Imela in Yagba West Local Government tasked the Club of promotion of activities and ideals that will enhance the Unity of Okun People.
The Chairman expressed confidence that with the brilliant and visionary ideas of the Club, its aims and objectives are doable and achievable with more cooperation.
The Obaro of Kabba and Chairman, Okun Area Traditional Council, HRM. Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi, who was represented by the Obajana of Owe land, Chief Emmanuel Funsho also called for unity in Okun land, saying only Unity can make the Yoruba speaking people of Kogi State speak with one voice.
The Obaro noted that he is ready to support any programme that will promote togetherness, unity, love and development of Okun land
He told the Club that as the first organized Club that cut across Okun land, the expectations of the people are high, urging them to be agents of unity and change in Okun.
The National President of the Club, Dr. Femi Olubiyo described the unveiling as a New Dawn for Okun land, stating that the Association is committed to socioeconomic development of Okun land.
Dr. Olubiyo, an Oil Magnet enumerated the aims and objectives of the Club to include; fostering and encouraging individual growth and development, serving as role model for Youths, improve healthcare general and psychosocial well-being of Okun people and acts of philanthropy among others.
