In an effort to enhance road infrastructure across the nation, the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, visited Kogi State on Saturday to review the ongoing construction of several federal roads.

The Commissioner for Works in Kogi State, Engr. Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, warmly welcomed the Minister at Abaji, the boundary between Kogi State and the Federal Capital Territory.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the significant infrastructural developments taking place across the country, noting that Nigeria is rapidly becoming one of the fastest-growing nations in West Africa.

Commissioner Mohammed praised Minister Umahi’s leadership qualities and highlighted the presence of State Minister of Works Bar. Goronyo, along with a team of engineers who accompanied him on the inspection tour.

Reflecting on the visit, Mohammed remarked, “I warmly welcome you to the Confluence of Opportunities. Your dedication to infrastructure development and your support for our state are deeply appreciated. Road infrastructure is not just a necessity; it is an investment that unlocks other investments. Kogi, being a link state that borders nine others, stands to gain significantly from these federal interventions.”

In response, Minister Umahi expressed his appreciation to the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his efforts in fostering infrastructural growth, particularly in the state capital, Lokoja. He commended Governor Ododo’s leadership style, describing him as an inspiring figure.

During his inspection tour at Banda, Korton-Karfe and Zariagi, Minister Umahi assessed the progress at various project sites and addressed the host communities and members of the press.

He acknowledged the high quality of work being executed by the contractors but expressed concerns about the pace of construction.

“The quality of work here is top-notch, and I commend you for maintaining the required standards. However, the pace of work is unacceptable,” he asserted, urging contractors to increase their efforts to ensure timely completion.

Senator Umahi concluded by thanking the people of Kogi State for their support and cooperation during his visit.
