The PDP House of Representatives Candidate for Yagba Federal Constituency, Hon. Seun Ibigbemi, has petitioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged fictitious inflation of the voters register in Yagba East Local Government Area.
The petition, dated October 27, 2026 and signed by Dr. Adekunle Oladapo Otitoju of Adekunle Oladapo Otitoju Ph.D & Co., was received by the office of the INEC Chairman in Abuja on October 28.
According to the petition, registered voters in Yagba East jumped from 53,436 in 2023 to 90,841 in the current INEC record — an increase of about 37,405 voters representing 70% in one electoral cycle, which the petitioner described as “statistically impossible without manipulation.”
The petition said the spike is concentrated in agrarian wards, with Alu/Igbagun/Oranre Ward 4 rising from 7,746 to 18,439; Ife-Olukotun Ward II from 3,891 to 8,560; and Ife-Olukotun Ward I from 3,431 to 6,388. Other affected wards listed are Jege/Oke-Agi Ogbom/Isao (Ward 6), Makutu II (Ward 8) and Ilafin/Idofin/Odo-Ogba (Ward 10).
The lawyers alleged that non-residents were imported during the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise from Omuo-Ekiti in Ekiti East LGA of Ekiti State, Iyamoye in Ijumu LGA of Kogi State and from Kano State, many of whom already have valid registrations in their home states.
They argued that this amounts to multiple registration, an offence under Section 12(2) and (3) of the Electoral Act 2022 which prescribes a fine of not less than N100,000 or one year imprisonment or both.
Ibigbemi urged INEC to urgently conduct a forensic audit of the Yagba East register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to fish out and delist multiple registrants, restore the register to reflect only genuine residents, and prosecute those behind the alleged act.
He said the step is necessary to safeguard a credible voters register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
