The Kayode Durotiwon Foundation has empowered widows and the elderly in Okoro-Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area.
The empowerment, a yearly programme across several communities in Ijumu featured distribution of bags of rice to widows and the elderly to ease the burden of the festive season.

Founder of the organization, Mr. Kayode Durotiwon in a message to the empowerment programme, expressed gratitude to God for another opportunity to impact the lives of widows and the elderly positively.
According to him, the foundation is dedicated to showing them love, care and empowering them.
Mr. Durotiwon noted that the empowerment was starting at Okoro-Gbede, Odokoro-Gbede and Araromi-Gbede and will extend to Iyara community.
He pledged to expand the initiative to other parts of Gbede land and Ijumu in general going forward.
One of the founding members of the foundation, Mr. Omotowa Sunday Olugbenga who represented the founder, explained that the yearly initiative was a way of giving back to the society, particularly the needy.
According to him, the distribution of food items to widows and the elderly was to provide succor for them in the festive season due to prevailing economic challenges in the country.
Mr. Olugbenga expressed the readiness of the foundation to do more in the future, calling on well-to-do individuals in the society to emulate the initiative.
President of the Okoro-Gbede Development Association, Chief Adewale Durotiwon appreciated the foundation for always putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged.
Chief Adewale said the yearly empowerment is worthy of emulation, describing it as humane and inspiring.
One of the organizers, Mr. Opeyemi Joshua Durotiwon said he was proud to be part of the noble initiative, describing the founder as an inspiration and expressed optimism that next year’s edition will be better.
According to him, the empowerment did not come as a surprise as Mr. Durotiwon has always been magnanimous even in inconvenient times.
An indigene of the community, Mr. Dominic Ojo thanked the foundation on behalf of the beneficiaries for the gesture, saying it will be of significant help to the community.
Mr. Ojo explained that the initiative has become part of the culture of communities in the area and is highly anticipated every year due to its positive impact.
